Welcome to the Good Funeral Guide NZ

A good funeral means a farewell that is the way you want it to be.

Personalisation and authenticity are the most important developments in today's funerals
In so many ways, our funerals are now about focusing on getting a full view of the person we're farewelling, to know them intimately, appreciate their uniqueness, and reflect their own personal values. Identity has replaced religion as the main purpose in most contemporary funerals, even religious ones, because we put the individual at the centre of the ceremony, as unique in death as in life.

Options for services range from the traditional funeral, a smaller personal gathering, to exuberant celebrations of a life.
Choices exist in the type of service, the readings and tributes and wake or celebrations.
Practical choices range from traditional burials and cremations to natural or eco- burial grounds. A wide range of caskets and urns are available, from traditional to more modern, from veneered MDF to pure pine and more modern shapes in pine ply, fabrics, and recycled paper or papperboard.

Whilst many funeral directors can advise on the spectrum of options available, some are less prepared for such questions.

This website's aim is to provide information for those seeking advice on ways to make a funeral personal. This includes choices within traditional funerals, alternatives to the more traditional, and for those wanting to reflect environmentally considerate values.
